DuShawn: Are you coming over to our place for Thanksgiving? ’Cause you’re invited if you want to come over…
Dirk: I’ll have to check with Lola…
DuShawn: She’s invited, too.
Dirk: Okay.
(Insert long awkward pause here)
DuShawn: And you can bring someone with you if you want…
Dirk: Lola will probably come.
DuShawn: No…I meant…him.
Dirk: Oh. Yeah. No, I won’t be doing that. He’ll be going home I’m pretty sure.
DuShawn: Okay. But he can come if he wants…if you want…whatever.

It’s too bad most of DuShawn’s people don’t feel the same accepting way. By people I mean Republicans of course. Maybe it would be good for Lola to meet the Fella on neutral ground. Ask him he just might accept and enjoy the neutral ground as well. It should make for an exciting time on Turkey day and a great blogpost for days.

An olive branch disguised as a turkey.
Ask him. It’s always nice to be asked. Plus it’s always nice to have someone on your side at any holiday dinners that involve family.

I would at least invite him—to let him know ’someone’ will accept him. I agree with Ed—Lola meeting him on neutral ground might not be a bad idea……unless of course she asks him if he’s a practicing homosexual. To which he should answer, ‘no ma’am, I practiced for so long that now I’ve perfected it.’ Then let the (turkey) feathers fly!

From what I have learned about Lola, there is no safe place for the fella to meet her. She doesn’t hold her tongue no matter where she is.

For what it’s worth, I agree with all above…it’s nice to be asked to the prom, even if you don’t dance. I’d invite him and do it like TODAY…..
So first ask Lola if she’d go. If Yes, ask him, if no proceed to Plan B – Old Country Buffet – old people love Old Country Buffet. Then ask the fella to join you.
You know, if this doesn’t work out, hop in the car and head to eastern PA, what’s one more when you’re up to 22 already???

It’s nice to hear the Fella is still around. I know you’ve been feeling less than fantastic about the situation at least blogwise but you should really feel proud of yourself. You spoke up. You were honest and you did what you felt you needed to do. So few people do that and spend the next 5 years walking on eggshells and remaining somewhat dishonest, hoping not to lose the one you’re with… at least I heard it goes something like that.
;o)

Off subject—I made the turtle pudding—fan-FREAKIN’-tastic!
Good thing I bought two boxes….just in case.
Dirk says: …hate to say I told you so, but I TOLD YOU SO!

If they really get to know him and see how nice he is, they won’t feel threatened by him. They’ll also see that your relationship with him is different from your relationship with them, and it’s not a “competition.” Therefore, they’ll know there’s no reason to feel “frozen out,” as Lola suggested they did.
