Messenger from beyond the grave or one too many horror movies before bed? Plus a shirtless hunk! (or “I had a dream – actually, two dreams…”)

Today, two dreams for your perusal — one from my childhood and one from last night. What do they mean? Do they mean anything? And if so, what?!?!?!?

Dream #1: As longtime readers may recall, before my mother married shit for brains Old Boy she and I lived with my grandmother. At the time, I still hadn’t started school so I wasn’t too aware of the fact that most kids (at that time) lived in 2 parent households. In fact, I don’t even remember if I realized I should have a male parent to complete the set.

During the time we lived there, I used to have this recurring dream which I can still see as vividly as if I had just awoken from it. To get the full image, you have to first understand that my grandmother’s house was laid out rather strangely. Instead of a square-ish living room, she had a long rectangular one (which made it damn near impossible to rearrange furniture), with the kitchen located off one end and the bedrooms off the other.

In my dream, I would wake up and go the hallway, compelled to look into the living room. A low hanging fog covered the length of the floor and at the far end would be the figure of a man. I could not make out any features, just the lines of his dark form as illuminated by the dim light from the street lamps filtering through the pulled curtains, but somehow I know he is in his late 30s/early 40s. I would stand there, staring at him and he at me, neither of us speaking. I don’t know how, but I instinctively knew he held no ill will toward anyone in the house; he was there to see me. We never moved any closer to one another, and the dream never varied. I remember having this dream until I was about 10 and never again since then.

Dream #2: I’m making out with a man on my bed. It starts to get hot and heavy and we peel each other’s shirts off. That’s when I realize I am making out with Clive Owen.

So what do I say to get this smokin’ cinematic stud even more in the mood?

“You know, your skin isn’t that bad up close…and your mouth doesn’t look as tiny in person.”

Cue Clive putting his shirt back on and leaving.

(Yeah, I’m fucking Rico Suave even in my dream life.)

Let the dream interpretations begin…

Responses

  1. I’ve got this! You want a Daddy!

In dream one, the man was the father you didn’t have. Mama Mancuso and Grandmama Mancuso just weren’t cutting it. So your dreams gave you a mystery daddy.

In dream two, you sabotaged your chances with one of the hottest men around because he just wasn’t you type. You want a Daddy. You want a hot older man who will tie you up and dominate you. Clive’s just too gentlemanly to oblige.

And on another note, be prepared for a lot of people to come to your site searching “shirtless hunk.” I get a few of those a day.

  2. I have no clue – but I like hearing you dreams.

OMG – great photo of Clive.

  3. I think dream one is you longing to meet your real dad. Dream two is you fantasizing about hunks from TV and movies and then realizing that in real life they are flawed just like everyone else.

  4. Dream #1 might not have been just a father figure, it could have been any benevolent male figure: a father, a grandfather that you hadn’t met, etc. Any of them might have taken a benign interest in budding little Dirk. Once you were 10, they noticed how tall you were getting, became afraid of you, and preferred to watch from outside the house. :-)

Dream #2: You sabotage relationships that you feel are out of your league. (This is probably a good thing–not that they’re out of your league, more like they don’t deserve you.) But what did Clive Owen ever do to YOU, hmmm? Answer me that! ;-)

  5. Whew. So Clive is still available then?

  6. Your dreams are awesome. Mine are almost always serial in some way and involve Buffy, movie trailers, or movie trailers about Buffy.

  7. According to the book 999 Dreams Interpreted, dreaming about an attractive man is “a sign of happiness and health.” It does not, however, say anything about a man whose features you cannot see.
The book also states that fog in a dream “shows that you have an introverted, mysterious personality which could cause problems in relations with those around you.” So maybe seeing a an unidentifiable man through a fog might indicate that you had (at least during your childhood, when the dream occurred) an inability to relate to father and/or authority figures (due to lack of experience with them).
I don’t really believe dreams have any meaning -they’re just an as-yet-undefined function of our brains that occur during REM sleep. In other words, the interpretations in this book are probably complete shite.

  8. p.s. -please excuse my typos above

  9. Dream 1 means you are the son of God (I really like that idea because that makes Mama the Mary figure) and he was contacting you in your subconscious.

Dream 2 means that no matter what the situation (even asleep) us non-celebs will say something that we immediatly realize was stupid when we’re in the presence of the famous.

  10. I’ve met celebs and although I didn’t say anything stupid, I felt that I was being sized up–and found wanting. :-) Then again, that could be my inferiority complex kicking in…

I don’t necessarily think dreams are “prophetic,” but I do think they mean something in relation to our present life, since it’s our subconscious at work. That’s probably why so many of us try to “interpret” them.

  11. #1 – That’s could go either way IMHO either your dream is a search for a father figure or that elusive perfect man. I vote for the latter.

#2 – What many of us are best at and again IMHO, we have a tendency to self-defeat people in our lives that we feel are “too good” for us. God know how many times I have been guilty of that one!

    Take Care,
    K
