Sometimes there’s such a thing as one plot twist too many…

If you haven’t seen this one, prepare for one humdinger of an eye rolling reveal in the final minutes.

And I don’t mean that in a good way.

  1. Here is the offical review: The film is visually moody and evocative, easily transporting you into the time period. What more could you ask for? A film is a visual medium and this one is a visual ten. The acting is superb as well as the plot. It keeps you interested, it keeps you guessing right to the shocking but most appropriate end. It asks you, what is one willing to sacrifice for the “Prestige?”

  2. Not $7! :-)

  3. Best line in the movie: “Exact science is not an exact science.”

    Thank you, Ziggy Tesla!

  4. Ed, I must respectfully disagree. For my money, THE ILLUSIONIST was the better film. Once you knew the plot twists in that one, you could go back and see exactly how it unfolded. It plays fair.

THE PRESTIGE, lacking faith in its payoff, throws in that one extra “shocking” twist, which is in essence a cheat. As far as I am concerned, once you start pulling stupid shit out of your ass just for the sake of shocking the audience, you’ve lost me. I expect a film to play by a certain set of rules and this one didn’t.

And even if you buy into the absurd sci-fi angle, I am still left wondering why, if the extremely over-rated Bale truly loved his wife, he didn’t let her in on his secret.

  5. I was just pontificating the official line. I’m sure Dirk’s view of the film is right on. I liked Aaron’s quip to the interrogative: What is one willing to sacrifice for the Prestige? Not Seven F*ucking Dollars! LMFAO!!!

  6. To bring to life those fellas from In Living Color:
    Hated it!

  7. **SPOILER ALERT!**

I hated this movie, too, Dirk. It made no sense why he was arrested in the first place. He was clearly not guilty. And ugh, that ending, so stupid. Maybe if they somehow made it involve the ‘other’ Hugh, it might have worked. It was nice to see Bowie in a movie. The Illusionist was better.

  8. While I didn’t hate the movie, I recently read the book and it is infinitely, massively superior. I highly recommend checking it out.
